Cleveland, OH, United States (4E Sports) - The Cleveland Cavaliers' backcourt gets a needed boost after former All-Star point guard Deron Williams expressed his intention to join the defending champions after clearing waivers.
A five-time All-Star, Williams is expected to sign with the Cavaliers Monday to fill the 15th and final roster spot.
A five-time All-Star, Williams was waived earlier this week by the Dallas Mavericks after he was not shipped to other after the trade deadline.
Williams, who is averaging 13.1 points this season, will play for his fourth team, after seeing action with the Utah Jazz, Brooklyn Nets and Mavericks.
In his 12-year career, the 32-year-old Williams is averaging 16.6 points.
With Williams' expected arrival, the Cavaliers would fill the playmaking needs that superstar LeBron James is seeking.
