New York, NY, United States (4E Sports) - The New York Yankees officially signed slugger Chris Carter to a one-year contract worth $3.5 million.
The 30-year-old Carter tied Nolan Arenado for the National League lead with 41 home runs this past season while also posting a career-best 94 RBIs for the Brewers.
However, he was non-tendered by Milwaukee in November after he led the NL in strikeouts with 206.
Carter will compete for at-bats at first base with Greg Bird and Tyler Austin and may share playing time with Brett Gardner in the outfield.
Carter can also fill in the designated hitter role, which will be occupied by Matt Holliday, who signed a one-year deal this offseason.
Carter is a career .218/.314/.463 hitter with 150 home runs, 374 RBIs and 875 strikeouts over seven big league seasons.
