Port St. Lucie, FL, United States (4E Sports) - New York Mets manager Terry Collins announced that Noah Syndergaard will be their Opening Day starter April 3 against the Atlanta Braves.

"It's just a huge honor," Syndergaard said. "It's something I've been working for ever since I was with the Mets, to be the Opening Day starter at one point."

"I'm extremely thrilled that Terry instills that kind of confidence in me. I'm going to go out there and get the job done," added Syndergaard , who may start against Braves' right-hander Julio Teheran on Opening Day.

Aside from Syndergaard , the Mets' rotation includes Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom and Steven Matz .

After pitching 3 years with the Mets, veteran Bartolo Colon signed a one-year, $12.5 million contract with the Braves.

"It was the easiest [decision] I've made in a while," Collins said, referring to his decision to start Syndergaard , who compiled a 14-9 record and 218 strikeouts in 183 2/3 innings of work last season.
