As reported in the National news on September 7, Equifax announced that approximately 143 million U.S. consumers were potentially impacted by a cybersecurity breach. Based on what Equifax has found though internal investigations up to this point, criminals were able to gain unauthorized access from mid-May through July 2017 to certain files that contained the following:
- Social Security Numbers
- In some instances, driverís license numbers
If you have ever had a loan or credit card from any bank, credit union or other financial institution, or a store card (furniture, department, hardware or electronic store, etc.), you should check to see if your personal information is at risk.
